LFW Feb 09 – Vivienne Westwood
24-02-2009

Daisy Lowe, Jo Wood and Alice Dellal (amongst others) all helped to show off Westwood's latest fashion offerings.
Checks, school blazer stripes and tweeds made this a very 'London' collection. There were some fabulous blazers (complete with 'school style' badges), checked skirts and chunky knits. This had all the hallmarks of a 'St Trinian's' themed look and it was obvious, that Westwood, as usual was having a bit of tongue and cheek attitude.
The colour palette again, referenced 'school days', as it was mainly black, blue, red, green and white. With stripes often being mismatched and off kilter.

As the collection developed, the 'traditional' Brit theme continued, with over-sized, wrap, fair isle knits and Scottish, felted wool (again) tartans. Mismatched prints and fabrics made the collection fun and eclectic. There were some very 'Westwood' cuts, mainly in the waist fitted, jackets that fluted out at the bottom and the well draped and pinched skirts. Trouser shapes were quite relaxed and slouchy, with tops being button front, had a boyish, rugby feel.
As with everyone this week there were metallic splashes, namely a floor length, strapless, silver maxi, layered over a boy shirt and under a lace cape (only Westwood could get away with it) and some fab, lurex threaded gold trousers, love!
Westwood continued with her great suiting 'with a twist', draping jacket fronts and manipulating shirt dresses, which are the mainstay of her Red Label. There were some great wardrobe staple dresses, that again are 'treasure for ever' pieces.
Interestingly, there was also brocades in red, black and yellow, that again ensured that whole collection, while being signature Westwood, definitely was well trend led.
