Jayson Brunsden

Back from a rocky ride through chemo, Jayson Brunsden has triumphantly produced a heavenly collection that portrays his sheer optimism and love of life. After going through a dark phase Brunsden wanted only light and colourful pieces with no somber dark tones appearing in this collection.

The collection was inspired by his socialite mother and the way she would dress at pool and dinner parties. The emphasis was on the luxe fabrics and the colour palate, rather than on the intricacy of the tailoring, creating an uncomplicated soft silhouette, enhancing the wearer's femininity, rather than making a bold statement. A definite nod to the classic screen sirens of the golden era and old world glamour. It was simplified grandeur and Pure understated elegance but in a modern day sense with shirt dresses transcending into evening wear in sumptuous silks and floor skimming lengths. Princess Mary of Denmark is affiliated with Brunsden and this collection would not look out of place in the modern day Cinderella's royal wardrobe.
The show had a Fifties Parisian salon show feel which transcended to the silhouettes and hemlines which were generally calf length or full length. Grecian draping and pleating appeared in white full-length gowns, giving the illusion of a modern day Venus. Calf length voluminous pleated silk skirts were paired with belted silk blouse jackets, pulled in at the waist and tied with a sash, creating a fluted ruffled hem. Dress shorts were tapered to the waist and wrapped up with silk bows and paired with crisp white cotton shirts with upturned collars and rolled up sleeves – very Carolina Herrera.
Garments were executed in block colours in line with the simplistic feel, with a few vintage floral prints appearing in peach, rose and teal. Pale creamy shades prevailed in oyster, champagne, peach and milky white accompanied by breezy mint and aquamarine, blushing mauve, and metallic shades of bronze, golden brown and rusty red. Fabrics comprised of satin and shantung silks, crisp cottons and cloth dripping with copious amounts of crystals, all a sight for the senses.
Judging by the Mexican wave of smiles passing over front row affiliates the show was a roaring success. I am left thinking lovely thoughts while wearing a smile on the inside. A memorable collection exuding class and sophistication, with a timeless look so refreshing to see in the current state of affairs.
