GFW 09 – University of Northampton
08-06-2009
Well, Northampton University was my first show of GFW and there were definitely a few gems to be seen. Yatri Pabari made me smile with a collection of asymmetric, leather jackets, a fantastic, circular, sequin hoodie. This collection was sparkly, in a Julien McDonald way. Plenty of showmanship, teamed with skill. A winning combination and a great collection.

Preena Mistry, woke up the crowd with her hip hop, bonkers collection and I mean that in a good way. The bright colours, the mixture of mens and women's wear in dropped, hip-sitting trousers, hoodies and tassels all showed great creativity and a bit of tongue and cheek. I simply adored the hoodie that use multi layered zips as tassels, pure and utter genius.

My final favourite, was footwear and accessories student, Onyedika Tate. The collection of wooden wedges, with leather flaps and straps, are near impossible to describe in a way that will do them justice. It is so hard for footwear student to get a decent platform to show their work and this selection seemed the most wearable, practical and safe, while still being big and funky. I also loved the bags that had an air of art and sculpture about them. Each one was intricate even though totally over-sized.
