GFW 09 – Westminster
09-06-2009
This show in particular seemed to be massively over subscribed and I somehow found myself without a press ticket and relegated to seats, far further away than I would like. I did want to go on strike, as its pretty hard to see the detailing from further than second row, there were some students that were just too good not to mention.
The first that really made me sit up, was Danielle Read, leather warrior mini dresses, leotards and sculptural sections that reminded me of transformers made for a creative and well executed collection. There has been a fair share of Gareth Pugh imitators this week, but this really emulated rather than imitated the creativity.

Danielle Donohue swiftly followed and I barely had time to make my notes. Danielle's models looked like the coolest and most rebellious brides ever! Off white dresses, both full length and cocktail, thigh skimmers, were showered in tiny, delicate and beautiful ruffles and tiered layers. There were sheer chiffon sections and in many ways this collection married an slight underwear theme with more elegant dresses. I loved the dip dyed, floor length ones, that were so brazenly gorgeous, then rebellious dipped in flouro pink, a stroke of genius!

Fflur Owen, has a five smiley rating on my note sheet, so she is definitely one of my hot picks of the show. The collection had a slight 'house on the prairie, western, romantic' feel to it and the laser cut, cropped, tan, jacket was simply enough to make us fall in love there and then.. Jackets were layered over, angel white, tunics, that were so floaty and romantic, simply gorgeous. I also loved the clever fastenings and detailing; leather, laser cut, harnesses were fixed over the chiffon, trapeze, tunics to create a new and inventive silhouette, one word . . . Fabulous!

Seren Colley, was my final favourite in the Westminster show, for a great menswear collection. Yellow, grey, black and white was the colour palette and great hoodied bombers, and good knitwear was layered with well cut trousers to create a relaxed and commercial look I was a huge fan of the jumpers that had little people knitted across one line. It was a solid collection that showed a good range of skills.
