Don’t Sweat It! – Makeup that can withstand the Summer! By Front Woman Lisa Avon
07-07-2009
Ok, so we have all been there. You spend ages perfecting your appearance, straightening your hair, and applying your makeup. Only to step out into the sun and wait for all that hard work to just melt off of your face and for your hair to wind itself back into the frizzy mess it was when you woke up.
As a front woman in a metal band, I have spent the past couple of years hunting down cosmetics that can withstand the heat of onstage lighting. This puts me in a better position than most when the sun decides to grace us with its presence. So I am going to share with the fashion capital readers, my heat resistant beauty regime.
1. HAIR:
I swear by Aussie's range of shampoos and conditioners, and in particular their 3 minute miracle deep conditioning treatment. Aside from the fact that it smells divine, it keeps your hair healthy and soft and helps it to withstand humidity. I use their colour protect range, but they do so many different alternatives, which means there is something for everyone. Aussie's massive range of products is available from most supermarkets.

Also, if you are feeling experimental, try out Special FX range of hair dyes. I find that they fade much slower than any other brand, and also don't bleach out in the sun as easily. Special FX dyes are available from www.beeunique.co.uk.
2. SKIN:
As we all know, the first step to beautiful makeup is beautiful skin. Unfortunately, this is not something I have been blessed with, and therefore I have to work hard to keep my skin looking and feeling nice. Luckily, the people at LUSH have created two excellent products which I would recommend to anyone:
‘Dark Angels' Cleansing Facial Scrub (£5.25 from LUSH): This charcoal based scrub can be very messy to use, but I really think it is worth it! You only need to use it once or twice a week to see the results.

‘Grease Lightening' Spot Treatment (£4.95 from LUSH): Tea Tree, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera. Everything you need to combat spots.
3. EYES:
I like to experiment with eye makeup. I try out different colour combinations, shapes, and occasionally draw pictures on my face (a'la Kat Von D.) This means that I often have to do things over so I do my eyes before the rest of my face. It also means that I can wipe off any fallout from my eye shadow before applying foundation. I could go on for hours about eye makeup, so I am going to limit myself and just list my ‘staple' eye products.
‘Urban Decay Primer Potion (£11 from Boots) and MAC's bare study paint pot (£12.50 from MAC)': Most people use one or the other as an eye shadow base, but I find that if used together they withstand heat more effectively!
‘Manly's 88 eye shadow palette": This is essentially the same as its coastal scents alternative. However, anyone who has tried to order anything from the Coastal Scents website will have encountered the ridiculous shipping rates. So, go to eBay, search ‘88 Palette' and pick up this amazingly versatile product for less than £15. The colours are extremely long-lasting and you get 88 colours for the price of one MAC shadow. Bargin!

‘MAC fluidline in Blacktrack (£12 from MAC)': Basically, if you don't already own this, you need to go out right this second and buy it! That is all I have to say on the matter!

‘Benefit ‘Bad Gal' Mascara (£14.50 from Benefit)': There is a very good reason that this is considered to be a cult product. It thickens and lengthens your eyelashes wonderfully, and is very long-lasting!

‘Stick on Gems': Great for glamming up any eye art! Just stick one at the end of your eyeliner wings, at the inner corners of your eyes or at the tops of your cheekbones. TIP: If you are going to wear these out all night, then pop a little bit of eyelash glue on the underside of the gem before applying it. Then you won't have to worry about it falling off!
4. FACE:
So here is the killer, finding face products that won't melt off in the sun. Well, I think I have found the perfect solution!

‘GOSH Velvet Touch Foundation Primer (£12.72 from Superdrug)': This stuff makes your skin feel so smooth, and makes any foundation go on (and stay on!) like a dream!

‘Lily Lolo Mineral Concealer, Foundation and Finishing Powder': I love ‘Lily Lolo' cosmetics more than words can explain. The amazing thing about this company is that they sell sample pots from their website for 49-99p so you can check that the shade is right before committing to buying a whole pot. I use ‘Blondie Cover up,' ‘Peep-O Under eye cover up,' ‘In the Buff Foundation' and ‘Flawless Matte Finishing Powder.' I apply the foundation and finishing powder with their super soft kabuki brush. All their products are available from www.lilylolo.co.uk

‘MAC's Mineralize Blush in Gentle (£16.50)': I love so many of the MAC mineral blushes but this one is my current favorite. It makes enough impact to be noticed…but not so much that you look like a clown!
So there you have it, makeup that won't drip off your face as soon as things start to hot up!
