Michael Jackson Style Special
11-07-2009
It is true to say though, that he definitely had an effect on the fashion world. I'm going to take a look at his styles over the years, and his iconic garments which define the "King of Pop", to see how they have rubbed off on the people, on and off the catwalk.
The first thing you think of when I say ‘Jackson 5' must be bold prints, bright colours, and afro hair. Am I right? Thought so! Even if the whole ‘Jackson 5' image from the 70s isn't coming back onto the catwalk (you can relax now), there is no doubt about it that the bell-bottomed trousers and butterfly collar shirts definitely defined the style of that era, and the brothers were bang up to date with the fashion.

It's since Michael started a solo career that he found his individual fashion style, and people went mad for it. The fact is that everyone who was anyone needed that red leather jacket after Michael Jackson wore it in his "Thriller'' video in 1984. All these years later, it's back in our shops and we can't help but love it. The red peak-shouldered jacket can be found in even the high street shops. This jacket retails at £120 and is from New Look.

His look just got better and better from this point, and the 80s were the era which defined the "Michael Jackson Look". It was the time of the military jackets, one white glove, cropped trousers and white socks, trilby hats, sequins, and big shoulders.

Super-shouldered-jackets, whether they are embellished, beaded, military or brocade, are spring/summer 2009's must have item. Even if they aren't here to stay, investing in one will bank you an iconic piece of Jacko which will sure come back one day! If you just glance at Balmain's Spring/Summer collection you can't help but notice the huge influence Michael Jackson has had on the garments. The heavily decorated and shimmering jackets are what everyone is looking at. Balmain is the next best thing to the Jacko style and it truly is something spectacular. Michael Jackson was even seen wearing a Balmain outfit which was designed for women. Can he get away with it? Of course he can! He was the one who created the look Balmain uses in the first place. This jacket is perfect, with the pointed, oversized shoulders and gold thread. Pair it with the faded, ripped, denim jeans and this outfit is the style of 2009.

Another runway which involved the singer's style was Louis Vuitton, where the sequined gloves were seen. The one glove signifies only one person and many celebs have been wearing one recently to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. No doubt this trend will carry through to other designer catwalks, and even to the people on the street.

Michael Jackson's fashion was the same as his music. It was new and stylish, where no one had ever done it before, but best of all, it was, and is, loved. Michael Jackson has not only got a place in music history, but undoubtedly in fashion history.
