Tantrum Launches At Hamleys

19-08-2009

Failing to secure any funding on Dragons' Den in order to open another branch of tantrum, the UK's first hair salon reserved exclusively to kids, didn't stop Latasha Malik and Neil Ambler to open their second grooming parlour.  So successful has the first branch been that the duo has just opened tantrum's little sibling in Hamleys, mecca to all things young and fun.

Malik and Ambler opened tantrum, in 2008 on the King's Road in London. It didn't take long before all the smart west London kids (and those with a fear of hairdressers) flocked to it, prompting the founders to say yes when Hamleys approached them with the idea of opening a second branch in the Regent  Street store.

Unlike its older sibling, the newest branch won't cut hair, but will do styling (French plaits, ballerina bunches, braids, straight and curly hair), nail decoration and fun make up suitable for children (with parents' permission of course). Prices start at £7 for nails, with most hairdos being between £10 and £20 and nails, hair and glitter bundles starting at £25. Plus, and here's the genius, they offer a variety of party packages aimed at children from the age of 4 (although most of them are for 6 year olds plus). Looking for a kids' birthday party with a twist? Here's what tantrum can do for you and your offspring:

Magical Musicals – (age 6 +) £300 for ten children:

For parties with up to 15 guests, the Magical Musicals package is perfect. Based on

musical favourites, such as Hairspray, High School Musical, Grease and Mamma Mia,

which are played on tantrum's huge plasma screens, the girls may have their hair

styled, nails decorated and light make up or a touch of glitter applied to the theme of

the party, should mummy agree.

Tantrum Launch

tantrum Birthday Tea & Tour – (age 6 +)

£299 for two adults and four children

£199 for two adults and two children

For small birthday parties or families enjoying a special day out, the tantrum Birthday

Tea and Tour is built to suit the birthday girl, ensuring that special attention is paid

to their favourite toys and games. An expert tour guide will show guests around the

seven floors of Hamleys, telling everything there is to know about the store's history

and behind-the-scenes news. With a welcome stop at tantrum, guests may have

their hair styled; nails decorated and light glitter applied or optional light make-up for

those older girls, before having a chance to play at being a Hamleys toy demonstrator.

The tour ends with morning or afternoon tea at the Hamleys Café, with stacks of cakes and sweets, where each child is given a goody bag to take home.

tantrum Princess Pampering Party – (age 6 +) £749 for ten children

Arriving to a juice reception, guests then settle down to enjoy a fun, girlie session,

designed especially them. Party guests can choose from foot spas

and funny face masks, to experimenting with a new hair style, nail decoration and a

touch of glitter applied or optional light make up for older girls, before dancing down the stage and having keepsake photos taken. Finally, the party is concluded with delicious cupcakes to share.

tantrum Fairy Princess Party – (age 4-6) £749 for ten children

As above, but tailored to suit younger children with tiaras, fairy wings and glitter.

The tantrum at Hamleys Sleepover – (age 6-10 years) £4,500 for ten

children

A child's dream come true: imagine having the entire toy store to yourself and

your closest friends – all night long!

Tantrum will supply you with special invitations to send out to each guest. Whether the

birthday girl wants to be a Pirate or a Princess, tantrum will find a theme to suit.

Order of events:

9pm: Arrive in your themed fancy dress. Then it's photographs and a visit to the Sweet Factory (and you thought Charlie and The Chocolate Factory wasn't real!)

9.30pm: Girlie session starts:

Kids have their hair styled, nails decorated and face painted.

11.30pm: Late-Night Feast:

Create a menu of truly scrumptious party food,

prepared by your very own chef.

12.30pm: Midnight at the Movies:

It's time for bed, but not before a film, juice and popcorn.

8am: Breakfast

9am: Time to head home

With all that much fun my only advice to parents would be: don't take your wallet with you when you pick up your children after the parties.  After a visit to Hamleys they are bound to have a rather long toy shopping list….
