UnReal Flawless, Sunless Tan
14-09-2009
I must admit that I've never been a fan of fake tans. Though I'm aware that these days there are products that won't give you that dreaded orange tinge so common with page 3 "stunnas" and WAGS, I can't help but think of the likes of Jordan and Jodie Marsh when sunless tan is mentioned. So you must forgive me for being a tad suspicious when I'm asked to try out UnReal, the newest sunless spray tan on the market. Distributed in the UK by Elizabeth Cornelius Ltd, UnReal comes in three shades that can be mixed together to perfectly match all skin tones. It also works with your epidermis according to the seasons thanks to its Advanced Seasonal Technology. I agree to try this new product, but not without fears. What if I come out orange? What if it streaks? What if I grow massive boobs overnight and get mistaken for a regular at Essex nightclub Faces?
It's a rainy Wednesday afternoon and my fears and I head off to Willesden Green to meet Rose-Marie Flannery. The tanning expert has managed to squeeze me in in between her celebrity clients (Rose is very discreet, but she does eventually name actress Tracy-Ann Oberman as one of her UnReal aficionados) and today she'll be turning me from pale and pasty to bronzed beauty. As soon as I meet Rose my fears start dissipating. Friendly, smart and beautiful, she looks as though she's just come back from an exotic holiday as her tan seems completely natural. No orange tones in sight and no streaking. But her tan has indeed come out of an UnReal bottle, and soon so will mine. After assessing my skin tone to best match it, Rose proceeds to apply the sunless tan to my skin, paying particular attention to areas prone to streaking (elbows, knees and hands). The application is quick, easy and very pleasant. I'm advised not to shower or do any housework until the next day, to give UnReal time to develop fully. Anxious to see the results the next day I get up at the crack of dawn. Where did I spend last night? In the Maldives? I'm impressed to say the least. My tan looks very natural, there's no orange shade or streaking in sight, despite the fact that the previous day I wore skinny jeans instead of loose clothes as advised. My boyfriend, who was worried I'd turn fluorescent, loves my new bronzed look, and so do my friends who are convinced I've been on a secret holiday and can't quite believe this glorious tan has come out of a bottle. Eat your own words then, Miss Bottinelli.
After years of applying spray tans, for Rose Flannery UnReal is certainly the best. Being able to mix shades makes a dramatic difference to her in order to obtain the best results on a client, but she also loves the fact that UnReal is a gentler than other products she has tried before since it doesn't contain any parabens or perfumes. Other brands also tend to have very high alcohol content, causing irritation and dryness of the skin.
Here are Rose's tips to achieve the best possible sunless tan:
· If you shave, do so at least a day before you have your spray tan done
· If you wax, do so at least two days before
· Keep your skin well moisturised at all times and after your spray tan application moisturise twice daily or more if needed.
· Exfoliate before your spray tan. This will get rid of dead skin cells and will avoid any flaking
If the above guidelines are followed to a t, UnReal will last for 7-10 days.
