Ioannis Dimitrousis : LFW Sept 2009
22-09-2009
Its jazz hands at the ready for this one, as showgirl sequins and Scottish tartan go under the sea for an oceanic inspired show. Fish tails, netted tops and big gold earrings echo the glamorous mermaid, and the tight tweed jackets finish the style off with an unexpected twist from the Greek born designer.
I would like to say that once caught, nothing could slip out of these frocks but this is not the case as one model had a problem keeping her elegant off the shoulder number on. Walking in them also seemed difficult for the models, or maybe that was the 8inch fuchsia snake skin heels that crawled up the ankles with a hurricane of straps and buckles.
Anyway, with slicked back hair and rose red lips the sequined numbers were fierce, and figure hugging which captures the ‘floozy' tone that Ioannis Dimitrousis was hoping for. Some were swimsuit style, some tailored and tight, others seemed to demonstrate the classic of a 1920's girl – just the long cigarette was missing!
Perhaps this collection was a bit too dark and dangerous for the sea themed collection that looks to the soothing backdrop of Greek landscape for stimulation. Should the ivory have been softer? Was the tartan too striking and authentic? In answer yes, but we know that followers of the Dimitrousis will love the new collection and grace the streets in the innovative designs. Well until next season anyhow…
