Tried and Tested : Anti

28-09-2009

It's easy to get lost in the sea of anti-aging products on the market. The first thing to ask yourself before buying is: what does my skin need? Has it lost tone and elasticity? Has it become dull? Has it developed dark dots on its surface and/or lost pigmentation? Have wrinkles and fine lines appeared or become deeper? The good news is that there is a good number of creams and serums that really can improve the appearance of aging skin. With this in mind I set out to find the best products out there and test them out, so you don't have to.  Here's my pick of the crop.

Yon-Ka Advanced Optimizer Crème and Serum Duo £114 Containing hibiscus and lupin peptides this serum and cream duo works in conjunction to firm, plump, regenerate and moisturises. The skin immediately feels firmer and softer with a noticeable difference in elasticity and fine lines reduction after only 3-4 weeks. www.yonka.com

Elave Age Delay Night Treatment £58 and Elave Age Delay Cleanser £28 With glycolic acid and xanthan gum, these products, used in conjunction, gently exfoliate the skin revealing a brighter, younger epidermis underneath whilst replenishing its natural moisture and elasticity. Glycolic acid is well known as a potent anti aging weapon, and the amino acid arginine is proven to help the regeneration of cells, to heal wounds and to protect the immune system. The use of Elave is recommended after cosmetic treatments like botox and chemical peeling. As it contains glycol acid, use a moisturiser containing a high SPF (30+) during the day whilst using this treatment. The Elave range contains no petrochemicals, phthalates, perfumes, alcohol or soap and it's not tested on animals. Elave also backs the Right to Sight charity which receives a donation for every Elave product sold. www.elave.co.uk

Trilogy Age Proof Replenishing Night Cream £30.95 and Age Proof Nutrient Plus Firming Serum £29.95 As serious about their skin care as they are about their ethics, this brand from New Zealand has had a meteoric rise since launching in 2003, and it's easy to see why. Apply the serum to your face, neck and décolleté'. Full of rosehip and primrose oils it softens, soothes and protects the skin, whilst the licorice and mulberry extracts boost skin's radiance. Follow with the Replenishing Night Cream which contains rosehip, evening primrose, olive and avocado oils plus extract of green tea, calendula, cucumber, vitamins A and E, and hyaluronic acid. Packed with anti-oxidants and moisturisers to plum the skin, it helps diminish the appearance of fine lines giving it a youthful elasticity. Containing plant extracts and alpha hydroxyl acids it helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness. It also helps the appearance of dark circles thanks to its light diffusing particles. Lacura Wrinkle Stop with SYN-AKE £6.99 Demand for this anti wrinkle cream has been so high that supermarket chain Aldi ran out of it last April. Containing Syn-Ake a new anti-wrinkle active compound based on a synthetic tripeptide which mimics the effect of Waglerin 1, a peptide found in the venom of the Temple Viper, Lacuna Wrinkle Stop is highly effecting against fine lines, deeper wrinkles and crow feet.
