Halloween Fashion Show
03-11-2009
On the Wednesday before Halloween, at a suitable decked-out Madame Geisha's in Brighton, once again I had the pleasure of being invited to cover a spectacular event courtesy of Brighton Frocks mastermind and general inspiration, Liz Bishop and Blue Monkey Events. The wonderful thing about covering these events is that you always know you are going to be blown away by the passion, enthusiasm and creativity of the team – and that the show will ALWAYS be out-of-this-world. I am happy to say, this Halloween extravaganza was no exception. Featuring a deliriously sordid and gory fashion show, the eclectic delights of Trudi Styles as host extrordinaire and a sold-out crowd baying for blood (or wine…) this was yet another evening of fashion-forward productivity that ensures Brighton remains forefront of the style rodeo.

Arriving a bit late (don't ask!), I found the venue packed to the rafters with Brighton's most cutting-edge fashionistas, full of the All Hallows Eve spirit. The show really was a dramatic and incredibly well choreographed event, throwing the voyeur into an alternative reality of other-worldly torment and anguish – in the most hedonistic manner. Each young designer proffered their wares using melodramatic make-up and hair (courtesy of Jez Eaton and Gary Forde) and allowed all who witnessed it to be swept away by the spectacle.
Olivia Grace Bassett showcased some truly beautiful designs – clearly inspired by the world of fetish. Her designs were well finished, sexy and provocative. Jessy.Lou. featured some inspirational and quirky designs, once again pronouncing themselves as one of the most original and edgy local designers of the moment. “->|:BRAGG:|<-” showcased some gorgeously sumptuous menswear, as always including their signature block colours and jersey fabrics. Whilst they didn't seem to embrace the Halloween theme to the extent that the others did, their designs stood quite deliciously on their own. Finally, Cherry Gemma embraced the horror genre in a truly inspirational way, assaulting our eyes with hugely provocative, contradictory pieces that left me breathless.
By the end of the night the electric atmosphere was more than just tangible, it had crept into our bones and to our very souls. The announcement of the very worthy winner – Jessy.Lou. was a fantastic finale to what truly was a spook-tacular evening. Blue Monkey, Liz Bishop and the team can invite me back anytime.
