The Teaching Cooperative

Jenny Holloway was impressed by the down to earth realism of the article and the inspirational way Rod was communicating with the young people he was working with and so developed a relationship that was to lead to the construction of an in house teaching studio and educational computer suite at Croydon Centrale. This venture goes hand in hand with the educational work fashion capital is currently doing with the schools in and around Croydon to promote media and fashion through NVQ's and work experience. The philosophy behind The Teaching Cooperative is based upon the ethos as the creation of the web community and it is basically an extension of the altrustic sharing of information and skills between peers. For this reason all the tutors on the courses are real industry professionals and not pedagogues and the venture is part of the not for profit philosophy of Fashion Capital.

The tuition is individual, relevant and direct and based around, though not exclusively, Macintosh based computer programmes such as Final Cut Pro for Video and adobe programmes for photography.. The courses draw fully on the resources of Fashion Enter and Fashion Capital and often involve the students in live designer fashion shoots, interviews and work at major UK fashion shows and Profile as well as other organised events. As a company established to promote the students interests within the fashion industry, the task would not be complete if it did not address the workplace in a realistic way.
That is why we will do our best to establish students in suitable work environments to match their ability. As a schools student option, our starter courses count towards work experience placement in photography
and video. unique feature of our courses is The Knowledge Bank. Here
mentoring on all aspects of the work a student might encounter can be addressed by our panel of experts – this is open to all participants who have completed full courses.
Scheduled courses are run on site or in house at our Croydon base.
