Herb UK Organic Colour Systems at Karine Jackson

Why is it that people buy organic food and skin care yet are quite happy to use any tint when they have their hair coloured?
There are probably several reasons, but the most common are the lack of available products and understanding of how harmful for us and the environment certain ingredients in common hair dyes can potentially be. As we know, the skin is the human's largest organ, which means that toxics contained in beauty products like hair dyes can and do penetrate in the first layer of our epidermis, and cause allergies and malaise to many people, with symptoms like headaches, swelling, itching, eyes watering, dry throat and cough. So, how do you dye your hair without posing a problem to one's health and the environment?
Until recently this was not an easy question to answer, until I heard about the Organic Colour Systems, ammonia-free hair dyes by Herb UK that contain aloe vera, comfrey, orange and grapefruit. These hair colouring systems contain a very low dose (around 0.6%) of p-Phenylenediamine (also known as PPD), the ingredient contained in hair dyes that can cause allergic reactions. Standard hair dyes can contain up to 6% of PPD.
So far so good, but will these tints be as beautiful and vibrant as the non eco variety?
Will they last as long?
Former British Hairdresser of the Year Karine Jackson is the brand's Creative Director, so what better place to try the Organic Colour Systems than at her Covent Garden salon?
I'm booked in with Simon, the Style Director with the daunting task of turning my discoloured, sunburnt mane into beautiful, sun-kissed, golden brown tresses.
The range of colours in the Organic Colour Systems is excellent and if you want your tint eco you certainly don't have to compromise. Simon suggests layering a dark golden brown with a light brown, to give my hair depth and texture and then adds very few natural looking golden highlights. The end result is a rich, vibrant, gorgeous colour and my hair feels soft, shiny and lustrous.
The only difference I notice from a standard salon tint is the lack of the typical, nasally aggressive smell; the scent of the Organic Colour Systems is barely perceptible and has just a hint of fruit to it. What's more the tint is long lasting and hasn't dried my hair in the slightest, maintaining its shine for weeks afterwards.
What's more, this colour is so safe and gentle that Trevor Sorbie's My New Hair Charity, recommends it to people recovering from cancer.
