What is International Fashion Fusion?
SA Fashion Week with the Department of Arts & Culture initiated a groundbreaking exchange program between leading fashion designers and traditional crafters. The aim was to reinforce a unique design aesthetic that would excite local consumers and generate international interest in South African fashion. Equally the vision was to provide urban designers with the opportunity to draw inspiration from their wider environment while boosting the revenue potential of the outlying crafting community.
The now confirmed International Fashion Fusion Project with SA and the UK will use the craftsmen of SA with the designers of both Haringey and SA to create a new line of eco friendly garments to be sold to asos.com.
The overall winner of the project will not only receive a six month placement with Asos.com but also have their winning design sold on their website.
The Competition Details:
The International Fashion Fusion competition encourages emerging designers to design a garment that will strongly coordinate with the work 'beaders' and 'crafters' produced in the South African townships. With help from Fashion-Enter's South African crafters pictures below, create a design that fuses the 'crafters' detail work with your own esthetic. The final winner will have their garment produced at The Workshop and then sent to South Africa for detail work.
‘We will be looking for innovative designers to create a selection of brand new garments that uses the beading and embellishments from the crafters in the townships. This project is for anyone with a sense of fashion and is a national first for all concerned.'

Hints:
If necessary download the fashion template as a guide to help you with proportions (click here for template). Using colour and showing detail are always a good way to present your ideas. Take a look at the South African craft examples for ideas of detail work; however remember the more research you do the more in depth your design will be.
