Showroom Update

11-01-2010

The snow fall caused chaos in the suburbs, which indeed threw a big fat spanner into my neatly planned schedule this week.  Anstee House was closed both Wednesday and Thursday, roads were blocked and the big freeze forced me to abandon my normal business attire and to dress for the elements and not the latest trends, though of course I was colour coordinated!!!

Another not so little problem was that designer's samples were to be couriered over to the Head Offices of a leading high street department store Wednesday afternoon for their meeting on Thursday that was taking place at 10.00am, following the successful meeting just before Christmas; but the college was closed!!!  And despite my very best efforts and every avenue explored there was no way that I was going to reach Kingston before security closed the building at 10.00am, unless of course a helicopter was at my disposal!

Security advised the building would be open the following morning between 7.00am – 9.00am only, but living in Sutton and with more snow predicted to fall overnight, I knew only too well that I could be facing the same scenario again the following morning; an option I was not willing to take on board!  Security advised the building would open Thursday between 7am – 9am only and this was the only opportunity to gain access to the showroom and retrieve the samples!

Once the madness settled outside, I ventured out on a very long bus journey to Kingston after eight 8pm and stayed overnight in a hotel so that I could walk to the showroom for 7.00am allowing enough time to neatly pack the samples into a case and bring them in person to central London and indeed it was very worthwhile as today I received a call advising that four out of seven designers have been selected; whoopee!!!  There will be a further meeting later this week so I will update you then and I am so excited for all those concerned.

Another successful meeting also took place this morning with the Merchandising & Buying Director and three other team members from a growing independent fashion retailer and they expressed great interest in a number of Fashion Enter designers in both womenswear and accessories. They are also interested in menswear which I will be shown at a later date.  Each designer has been contacted to update accordingly and you each know what is required so that I can progress this to the next stage.

It's all so exciting!

Despite the chaos the British weather has bought this week, I have to say that for the first week in 2010 it has indeed ended on high, so designers keep up your hard work and success will follow.

Until next week
