The eruption of the Icelandic volcano has coursed flight delays and cancellations across Northern Europe as ash and dense smoke engulfed the the roads of the sky. Because of this no planes have taken off from airports in five days because of the poor visibility and the danger of damage to the aircraft’s engines from the volcanic ash.

The cancellation has affected everyone, from the family’s on holiday who cant return to their country to the actual aircraft and airports employers. Up to 150,000 Britons have been left stranded or are trying to leave the U.K. Many family’s who are trying to return home are having to spend money they did not plan to spend, this would affect their disposable income in the future.

If the tourist are lucky the hotel they were staying in might let them stay for free because of the circumstances, otherwise they have to book into a hotel or sleep in the airport. There has been stories of thousands of passengers sleeping in airports, they have been given blankets and food from the airlines. Speaking of the airlines, The international air transport association estimated the the airlines has lost up to £1.1. billion because of the eruption of the volcano last Wednesday.

Also Gordon Brown has sent three of the Royal Navy biggest ships abroad to collect stranded British tourists. I personally think Mr Brown has reacted like this because he really cares for the inhabitants of the country he is in charge of or that this makes him look exceptionally kind in the weeks leading up to the election.

It has affected also the economic world as Billions of pounds have been lost. Not only from the airlines but the imports and exporters have been greatly damaged. Most food products are transported by planes into the The U.K. But now with the planes cancellation the imports will lose money as well as the supermarkets as their stocks will be getting low. From plants and flowers dyeing because there not being sent abroad, to thousands of important parcels stuck inside U.P.S. And Fedex planes. Because of theses delays, inflation will go up and I also think in the coming months cheap air travel prices might also go up so the airlines can recuperate some of their lost money.

The good news is that today (21-04-2010) the first planes are now taking off and landing, with the first passengers arriving back in the U.K. This morning.

To sum up I would just like to say this. The human race runs this planet and it thinks it is the dominate force on Earth. But there is a more important power in control of Earth, and her name is mother nature.
