Monroe’s Dress Sold At £2.8M
By Jennie May Thompson

The most expensive dress ever, of Monroe’s fetched a whopping $4.6 million (£2.8 million) this weekend. The iconic white halter neck dress, worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film The Seven Year Itch, was the top lot at the sale of Debbie Reynolds’ Hollywood memorabilia. The breathtaking white dress which the blonde bombshell wore in 1954 has become a symbolism of femininity, and references to the outfit have become common.
Previously the most expensive dress ever sold, was also worn by Monroe and sold at $1.4 million (£870,000) in 1999.
Debbie Reynolds reluctantly parted with the dress, after failing to find a backer to help establish her dream of opening a Hollywood Museum. She cried as she watched the dress go under the hammer.
