All About Stuart Weitzman’s Latest ‘Nudist’ Stiletto Campaign


That’s the formula employed by shoe guru Stuart Weitzman for his Spring 2016 campaign, which enlists the head-turning talents of Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls and Lily Aldridge.

The trio are posed in an intimate embrace, captured in an undeniably striking black & white image by famed fashion photographer Mario Testino. Some reckon the image evokes Herb Ritts’ 1989 photo of models Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Christy Turlington and Tatjana Patitz.

The poster campaign might be a winner – and will be plastered across billboards worldwide – but what else do we know about the shoes themselves? Will they jump out when you browse the pages of How To Spend It?

All about Stuart Weitzman shoes:

*Weitzman says the model trio – who all featured in the recent Victoria’s Secret fashion show – were chosen because they are all friends and because of their ‘social relevance and fashion-forward trendsetter statuses’ – saying the three are the ‘quintessential girls next door’. As the press release puts it: “In the world of Stuart Weitzman, ‘sexy’ means being comfortable and confident in your own skin, and the campaign captures this essence in a relaxed, effortless and chic way, while showcasing the new season’s essential silhouettes.”

*Hadid and Aldridge famously appeared in the video to Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood. Hadid wrote on Instagram: “So excited to be a part of the @StuartWeitzman SS16 campaign. Best shoes, best team, best day – clearly NOTHING else is needed.”

Smalls, on her Instagram page, wrote: “These Shoes were made for Walking…Naked”.

*The campaign centres on the appropriately named Nearly Nude sandals, a block-heeled revamp of the super-popular Nudist range. Hadid herself is known to be a celebrity fan, as are Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively, Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston and Beyonce.

*Featuring a bold block 2 ¾ inch heel, the Nearly Nude range is available in saddle, black and aqua shades of suede. Each has an adjustable ankle strap and leather sole and insole. The heels are padded to give an extra cushion and they have been designed to keep your foot at a much more natural angle than a traditional stiletto, all so you can wear high heels all day.

*The luxury brand was founded on the concept of a ‘beautifully-constructed shoe, blending fashion and function’. As his spokesman puts it: “The award-winning styles created by founder and designer Stuart Weitzman are engineered to feel as good as they look, and to look as good as they feel.”

*Weitzman has won awards for his design and runs 58 retail stores across the United States and in Europe, with footwear and accessories sold in more than 70 countries.

*Previous campaigns have featured brand ambassadors Kate Moss and Gisele Bündchen. Amy Schumer also garnered a fair amount of attention wearing Nudist sandals for the Annie Liebowitz-shot Pirelli calendar.
