Now On: 50 Years of Catwalk Photography by Chris Moore

06-10-2004

{mosimage}Well respected by designers and fellow photographers alike, Chris Moore can often be found slap-bang-in-the-middle of the photographers scrum right at the end of the catwalk. Known in the business as the photographer that captures ‘the perfect shot,’ editors the world over rely on Moore’s images – season after season.

Originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Moore relocated to London as a teenager and worked as a photographic assistant to the likes of Cecil Beaton, Henry Clark and Norman Parkinson, shooting fashion spreads for the glossy style bible – Vogue. Later he moved to Camera Press and saved up enough money to start his very own business as a freelance photographer, which he began in 1956. Back then you could see his name credited in magazines such as – Vanity Fair, She and Country Life.{mosimage}

These days he is the in-house photographer for top designers including – Helmut Lang, Hussein Chalayan and Alexander McQueen. Moore has also become a central fixture at the International shows and heads a team of five to ensure all the collections get covered.

Iconic moments such as – the Linda, Cindy, Naomi and Christy group supermodel saunter for Versace, Madonna pram-pushing for Jean Paul Gaultier and Tom Ford’s final bow for Gucci, have all been snapped through Moore’s lens.

{mosimage}Not only a regular at all the top shows you will also find Moore supporting the next generation of talent by covering many off-schedule and graduate presentations. Now aged 70 Moore has just been spotted clicking away at this season’s Fashion Week, and if you feel like you’ve missed out on that score then you could always pop down to Liberty’s for a peek at his current exhibition.{mosimage}

Moore sifted through a vast amount of images with his partner Maxine Millar and selected pictures that he felt had a slight edge. Filtered down to 150 photographs – viewers can get a taste of fashion through the decades – from 1950’s elegant couture in black & white to witty and ironic fun as seen at the Vivienne Westwood shows.

Now showing until 22nd October there is also the opportunity to pick up your very own fashionable Chris Moore print, prices start at £200.
