Global Guru has landed!

07-04-2005

Global Guru is a brand for the elegant and adventurous. Limited edition digitally printed textiles for fashion and interiors are illustrated with bold, quirky pattern inspired by Morag’s own travels in Asia, Europe and America and influenced by different cultures, art movements, fashion and architecture….the world and everything in it!

Morag works predominantly with 100% silk and manufactures scarves, cushions and wall hangings as well as selling fabric by the metre and selling designs only. She also takes commissions and can design to brief.

Morag Macpherson is a trained graphic artist living and working in Glasgow and is using her illustrative skills to design unique patterns and apply them to her fashion and interiors accessories collections for her company, Global Guru, which has just embarked on its first season of silk scarves for fashion having previously been involved in the interiors industry.

Having completed trade shows in London with the Crafts Council and Top Drawer supported by Scottish Textiles and been to Germany and New York last year with the interior collection as part of the British and European Design group, Morag is currently involved with the London Fashion Forum Select profile exhibition and retailing in their Kingly Court and Bluewater boutiques. She also sells scarves to the London Fashion and Textile Museum shop and various independents throughout her native Scotland.

The Spring/Summer 2005 collection shows designs inspired by Tibetan culture using Sanskrit writing mixed with a Japanese flavour. Nothing is ever one thing from one culture, but always an interesting mix of many different ideas to create a unique statement of its own. So diverse are the influences: fine art from the exotic colours and shapes of Gauguin to a more graphical art form like Milton Glaser, Patrick Caulfield and Saul Bass with Morag’s background in graphics using typographical references; to a more traditional textiles influence from  fellow Glaswegian Mackintosh and recent revivals of Florence Broadhurst; to contemporary fashion influences from Eley Kishimoto and Galliano; to ancient traditions in art from African tribes and Indian imagery ….it’s all in there and will continue to influence and inspire as the collections develop over the years….there is nothing new under the sun.

The forthcoming Autumn Collection will move into velvets as well as silk and next Spring season will see chiffon scarves being introduced to the collections.

Global Guru will be showcasing the Spring/Summer 2005 and Classic Collections at the London Fashion Forum Boutique at Bluewater April/May 2005.
