If you only buy one accessory this season make sure it’s a pair of sunglasses, and make sure they’re big!! With a whole host of designers such as Frost French, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney showing oversized shades for spring/summer 05, it was only a matter of time before this cool and quirky look was seen on the street.
With the 80’s providing much design inspiration for many trends of late, it makes sense that the most directional sunglasses reference this era. Chunky round, square or geometric-shaped frames all prove bolder is better when it comes to eyewear. Plastic is key for frames, particularly in tones of brown, while frosted and tortoiseshell effects create individual looks. Contrasting frame and lens colours such as black and white create impact, alternatively, coloured lenses are hot in shades of pink, cherry or tan.
Verging on the extreme, super-huge glasses create the ultimate style statement. For less extrovert looks however, substitute extra-big aviator styles or ski-goggle-inspired shades. Alternatively for a less disposable, classic look opt for bold black square frames for a touch of timeless French Riviera chic.
