Trend alert – Shorts
27-04-2005
As the summer approaches, hem lines get shorter, jackets become thinner and t shirts get tighter and cooler. Trousers also get shorter, as we all experienced last year, the cropped 3 quarter length trouser were the things to be seen in. However this year, things have been twisted and the length has got even shorter. Yes ladies, it is time to pamper your pins as the shorts are back and more fabulous than ever! The catwalk has seen a huge surge of the shorts and the selection is huge and there are lots of great styles to choose from.
I know from experience that shorts don’t always suit everyone, as everyone has different shapes and curves. To solve this, there are many different styles, materials and patterns to solve this. Tailored, wide legged, stripped, khaki and fold ups have all appeared on the catwalk and can be teamed with almost anything. They look cool in the summer breeze and give off the vibe that you are about to travel somewhere exotic and exclusive- even if it only to your local Sainsbury’s.
This is one of those trends where people think; Could I? so that is why I have thought up some tips on how you can make the make of your shorts without looking and feeling like a misfit. So, pull up that hem line and read on.
v Go for loose fitted shorts; a size or two from what you really are usually. Think baggy, nonchalant and cool, not all skimpy and showy. You don’t want the world to see the bottom of your bum cheeks.
v Wear with wedges (the new staple item and must have in your wardrobe this summer), socks and shoes combo if you have longer pins or scruffy converse for the ultimate laid back chic. Avoid pointy kitten heels as it isn’t meant to be over the top chic.
v Add a vintage leather belt, a thick grosgrain ribbon or an obi for that Marc Jacobs look.
v If the shorts will allow, roll up the end of them. This will make them look a little more lived in, giving you that vintage-safari look.
v Watch the length. Don’t go too long as you’ll look like a little school boy in oversized p.e shorts, but not too short as you will look like a fashion disaster. Keep the length so that it rests neatly on the thigh and if you’re feeling a bit crazier, nip up the length slightly but keep the shorts loose.
v Finally, this is not a time to be shy, so wear your shorts with confidence and attitude. Any sniggers will be jealousy in disguise.
So there you have it. Wear them with pride and start the trend as you mean to go on.
