Graduate Fashion Week is now in its 14th year. GFW is the largest showcase for final year students.  All collections are held under one roof with 39 stands, two fashion theatres and 20 catwalk shows GFW is where it’s at!  Some fashion insiders have even stated that GFW is much more exciting than London Fashion Week!

GFW encapsulates everything; the excitement, the hustle and bustle, as well as the anticipation of who will be the next big thing to be catapulted into the vibrant world of fashion.

Over this four day event catwalk shows and the exhibitions will be showcasing the best in British Design talent.  We must not forget that this industry is not all about fashion designers – there will be students who want to go into marketing, illustration work, PR, graphic and textile design so let’s not forget them.

This year a total of 35 universities and colleges will be taking part making it the biggest GFW ever!! The event is so huge now that Retail Sponsor River Island has signed a two year deal as the official sponsors of GFW.  This event attracts representatives from major fashion retailers along with some of the prestigious fashion houses all on the prowl for the next Alexander Mc Queen or Galliano!

The United Kingdom has a well known reputation for producing the ‘very best’ in design talent, that goes without saying!  However not every student wants to be at the level of Stella McCartney and with hundreds of courses covering not just design but also marketing, styling, management, retail, photography and journalism it just goes to show the diversity of working in this industry. Fashioncapital have produced a full listing of fashion courses available to you nationwide, just click on the link below:

This is what the Industry is looking for, it is a reflection on what the courses are offering to students of today making them much more aware that there are other jobs out there apart from design and is a reflection on what the industry wants.

GFW sponsor River Island has created the River Island Gold Award – This award is the largest known award to date in British Fashion history.  And the prize, a whopping £20, 000!!! This award is with the intent of equipping them with the right amount of start up capital in order to steer them in the right direction of their carer path.  It doesn’t stop there.  River Island will also offer the winner a chance to design a garment which will be sold throughout River Island stores.

The LFF will be covering GFW all next week and will bring you all the latest News and Views from the event.

GFW Contact names in blue will be showing on the catwalk.
