Smart act to follow
Tailoring is proving an essential addition to fashion forward wardrobes this season and going through into the next. Casual garments are combined with sharply tailored jackets creating bold contrasts. Fluid summer dresses complete with tiered ruffles or shearing, get a masculine edge when combined with structured tailoring.
Key tailored jacket styles incorporate cropped proportions, large feature revers, cut-away centre-fronts and curved shaped hems. Nautical and especially, tuxedo styling prove essential for silhouette inspiration.
The humble blazer was shown by Paul Smith for summer 05, while designers such as Chloe, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton and Eley Kishimoto played with volume, proportion and print. Satin proves a hot fabric for cuff detailing for dinner-jacket-inspired styles, while pinstripes are reworked as fresh summer print-way.
Must-have, item for next season, the waistcoat, incorporates both an element of tailoring and a masculine edge to an outfit. Wear layered with other garments or closely fitted next to the skin.
