Model of the Moment…

{mosimage}The original Uptown Girl – Christie Brinkley will be fronting a brand new advertising campaign for one of her longtime clients – CoverGirl. Brinkley had been synonymous with the brand for twenty years, her fresh, wholesome, all-American look featured in CoverGirl Ads from the mid-Seventies to mid-Nineties. Now aged 51 she has been asked to model once again to advertise a line called Advanced Radiance, which targets the 35+ market. Commenting on the deal Brinkley said: “There is such an age phobia in this country and this ad is showing me being comfortable with the age I am. I think it’s a good positive image, something you don’t see enough of… CoverGirl is making an effort to show a wide range of beauty – different ethnicities and age groups.”

L’Oreal Ads Banned

While we are on the subject of beauty product campaigns, two of L’Oreal’s TV commercials have been banned as the Advertising Standards Authority say they are misleading. The two products in question – Wrinkle De-crease and Perfect Slim make claims such as “visible reduction on expression lines” and a “reduced thigh circumference by two centimeters in two weeks.” The ASA ruling this week states that there is no evidence to back up such claims and are therefore misleading. L’Oreal responded that both commercials had been approved by the Broadcasting Advertising Clearance Centre and that consumer research shows a very high satisfaction rate for both products. L’Oreal has no choice but to comply with the ruling and the ban will no doubt have the cosmetics industry treading a lot more carefully in future.

Gearing Up for LFW

Mid-August and the industry is getting in the fashion week mood. Thankfully the British Fashion Council steered clear of another season at Battersea and has relocated the LFW tent back to the grounds of The Natural History Museum. Also on the cards is Fashion Fringe 2, MAN by TopMan & Fashion East and Profile 6. It really is all happening in London this season, talk about fashion galore. Names to watch out for on the off-schedule calendar include: design duo Aganovich & Yung, Victim Fashion St by Mei Hui Liu and Louis de Gama. It’s also good to see Fashion East talents Richard Nicoll and Roksanda Ilincic move onto the main schedule with the big boys.

Sarah Jessica in the City

{mosimage}It may have been a while since Sex and the City graced our screens (that’s if you don’t include the reruns) but Sarah Jessica Parker has certainly been keeping busy. Known for her quirky but oh so stylish fashion sense Parker has brought out her very own fragrance called ‘Lovely.’ She will be dropping by Harvey Nichols at the end of the month to introduce the new ‘silky white amber’ scent and no doubt check out a few of the labels on offer upstairs.

Lovely introduced by Sarah Jessica Parker at Harvey Nichols – London 2.30pm on Wednesday 31st August. The fragrance is available at all Harvey Nichols stores priced from £27 for 50ml.
