Check Prints

This print has been taken to the next level this season. Designers have worked with check prints to break up suits on a waistcoat and shirt, or gone for the complete head to toe look. The traditional gentlemen’s image associated with this print has been compromised and check prints now have a presence amongst casual/high street looks too.

To pull this off successfully incorpoate bright colours such as lime green and orange on other items of clothing and accessories, or even better when the print itself is coloured. Avoid mixing it with other prints and shapes as this creates confusion and the wrong type of clash.

Coats and Jackets

A festival of shapes is live with jackets and coats this season. Wrap over jackets V structured and oversized coats V trench. The selection available from autumn/winter 05 is a revival of decades from the 1940’s to the 1990’s. One colour is best, and colours at the top of the chart from designers include blue, brown, grey, black and white. Key fetures to look out for are high necklines and big buttons.

So what is the coat/jacket to go for this season is the pressing question? The answer is simple…… what works with you. For autumn/winter 05 they are all about shape and structure, with a minimalist yet effective look.

Black and White

Saving Grace for the more reserved, with the option to go over the edge! Stripes, prints, black on white, white on black, polka dot and much more are all ways of flipping this trend. The colours are also great individually and reflect inspiration from this style. Keep accessories minimal and focus on creating the desired effect as black is great at moulding shapes and white is good for accentuating. Try to keep fabrics of similar textures and composure together such as delictes and soft, chiffon and fur or leather with heavy knit.
