It’s a Cinch!

You can wear belts low, they can bobble to and fro

You can tie them in a knot, you can tie them in a bow

You can wear them over your shoulder like a

                        continental Solider

                        Do you wear belts low?!

On a Saturday afternoon, along the busy streets of Queen St. West, I noticed that Torontonians everywhere were embracing the belted trend.

The belts were worn high, cinching the waist line, as an accessory over clothes, and/or in their traditional sense – to forbid pants from falling to the floor! My personal favourite outfit/use-of-a-belt-in-an-outfit was engineered by a sales representative at American Apparel:

Interestingly enough, the majority of my fashion forward models were sales representatives at American Apparel. Is it of any wonder that AA was founded by a fashion savvy Canadian as well? I would like to think not!

The majority of the belts were of vintage descent, jeweled, and/or with a large buckle worn towards the front or sideways. The vintage factor did not come as a surprise to me, as from experience, the BEST belts that I have ever come across, have emerged from the back of my mothers’ closet! Other great sources include Courage my Love (Kensington Market), House of Vintage (Queen St.), Pacific Mall stalls (Richmond Hill), and the Mecca of fabulous vintage finds- Value Village (High Park, Steele’s).  For fantastic jeweled wonders check out the Indian Bazaar – Gerard St.
