This Year We’ll Be Mostly Wearing…

1 Frocks

Put on and go – the frock is big for 2006 key shapes range from the simple shift to empire line and shirt dresses. Come spring at Top Shop its shirt dresses with a distinctive nautical flavour – while Miss Selfridge goes the vintage route with strapless summery numbers complete with pretty bow details.

2 Yellow Gold

The consumer demand for yellow gold has jolted the luxury jewellery market into action. Now jewellers from Cartier to Patek Philippe are creating ranges with the stuff. Look out for luxurious yellow gold watches that incorporate precious stones on a flash wrist near you.

3 White

For men and women – take your pick from white denim, as seen at Designers at Debenhams – John by John Richmond for the fellas, to feminine white broderie anglaise blouses by Jasper Conran. White is crisp and fresh for 2006, it could well be time to make friends with your local dry-cleaner.

4 Lengthening Mascara

While make-up remains polished and barely there – the Spring/Summer 06 shows revealed look-at-me lashes for some full-on flirt and flutter. Thickened-up with layers of mascara some went a tad further with an additional fake lash or two. Good news for fake lash fans go professional and you can now get lash extensions that last for up to two months.

5 Swingy Cropped Jackets

The classic cropped jacket continues to sell and this season it re-emerges loose and swingy. Think 50s boxy jackets, kimono styling with a modern demi-couture twist, it’s the perfect spring cover-up.

6 Belted Waists

It seems like we’ve been wearing belts around the hip area forever, well now they are moving on up and that means waistbands are on the rise too. From satin bows to leather belts it’s time for a bit of old-school hourglass femininity.

7 Neutral Deluxe

Spring 2006 will not be totally devoid of colour but neutrals are set to reign the season. Cream, oatmeal, tan and antique leather, tasteful tones that flatter all.

8 Biker Jackets

One for both sexes’ biker jackets are reduced to clean lines in soft supple leathers. In the men’s department the likes of New Look and River Island will be stocking up on biker shapes while bomber jackets and biker boots toughen up an otherwise feminine season for the girls.

9 All Eyes East

A touch of wrap-tie here and a kimono sleeve there, inspiration moves on from Russia to the Far East. Elsewhere on the influential hit list for 2006: Mid to South America and Spain to the fresh palette of the English country garden.

10 Pendants

Long, dangling pendants or lariats, it’s all in the swing with these instant dress-up gems, how low you go is entirely down to personal choice.

And say goodbye to…
