Time to cut the red tape in business

However the Government have now recognised that, at long last, something has to be done. Entrance William Sargent who is the head of a new department Better Regulation Executive which will be part of the Cabinet Office. He has the enormous task to produce savings of about £12billion – that’s roughly 1% of GDP
 
William will have the power to go across all departments within Government to find out the salient ways of cutting costs for all areas he will then have to ensure that each department adopts best practices too. This follows on from two major reports from the Better Regulation Task Force’s “Less is More which basically, as the name implies, recommends reducing regulatory costs of doing business. The second report is the Hampton report which recommended reducing the number of inspections that take place at businesses.
 
Sergent has a good background. Previously he was the chairman of the Small Business Council, a position that he held for over four years so he his well versed in the trials and tribulations of small business pressures.
 
Over the next three months the consultants Price Waterhouse Coopers and KPMG will be contacting businesses by phone to find out what the financial burdens are on small businesses and then compile a full assessment.
