‘Windows of Opportunity’

Valentines Day

‘All you need is love’ John Lennon & Paul McCartney

You can’t help but notice that February 14th is upon us again, the supermarkets are filling their aisles with heart cards and teddy bears.

As with any occasion window Valentines Day can easily become cheap and tacky, red hearts & cherubs are often used over and over again.  Certain familiar symbols used in display presentations are so commonplace that they have become clichés.

When putting together the ides & props for a Valentines window you need to think about setting a romantic scene, if you are showing lingerie think about it being hidden and secret, but designed to be seen, show it in the boudoir, with accessories & props that support this, use fabrics which float and are ultra feminine.

Keep your windows looking contemporary include current trends for example the film Memoirs of a Geisha demure but naughty.  Part of the mystic of the Geisha was that they were living up to the fantasy of being untouchable artists of love.

COLOUR

Colour is still the big attraction; it is what we see first and what attracts us to an object.  Valentines windows use hot pink and red which can be dazzling in its intensity on a cool grey February day – the warmth of the colour pink flowing out from the window can draw the customer like a magnet.

NOSTALGIA

Nostalgia sells!, many people dream of ‘the good old days’, which probably not all that good and not really so long ago, its all about creating memories of long lost loves or romantic moments that’s amore!.
