02-03-2006

In January 2006 Berlin received the UNESCO title ‘City of Design’. The title honors the city’s creative buzz and the works of Berlin-based designers, photographers, artists and architects. Berlin is a young and experimental city, constantly evolving and in search of new and exciting cultural expressions. Fashion is at the forefront of the German capital’s agenda.

Premium is a Berlin-based tradeshow for contemporary menswear and womenswear, progressive street fashion, luxury sportswear, designer denims, exclusive accessories, international designer collections as well as selected fragrances and cosmetics.

Now running in its seventh season, it established itself as one of the most sought after fashion events on the German fashion calendar. Attracting over 17.000 visitors this year, with various national and international top-buyers, shows the enormous interest in Berlin and the relevance of Premium.

Anita Bachelin, the founder and managing director of Premium explains: ‘Fashion is moving back towards an independent way of thinking and both buyers and suppliers need to be able to come together at a show where they can find likeminded people, who intent on putting their heart and soul back into fashion.’

‘We offer both men’s and women’s clothing early in the season, in a great environment, for half the cost of most other cities. This allows visitors to spend more time, do more work, and achieve a huge amount.’

For autumn/winter 06/07 Premium expanded its exhibitors portfolio and showed 600 collections in total. As a unisex fashion and lifestyle platform, it presented 42% womenswear, 26% menswear collections and 32% of lifestyle, shoes and accessories.

This year’s Premium Young Designer award went to Antonia Zander (womanswear), Handbuild Press (menswear) and Pauric Sweeney (accessories). The award is endowed with a 20m2 stand at Premium spring/summer ‘07 in July 2006, a presentation at Premium’s own concept store F95, as well as a full page article in the style magazine WeAr.

The two modern locations the Premium ‘Station’ (which hosted 520 international designer collections, denims, progressive street fashion, shoes and accessories) and the Premium showroom ‘Tunnel’ (which showed about 80 selected designers, new talents, shoes, accessories, as well as fragrances, books and CDs), offer professional visitors an experience for ordering in the epicenter of new trends and an urban excursion into an exciting and fashionable future. The clean and puristic atmosphere of the industrial architecture with the concept of prebuilt booths directs the attention to the product.

Situated in the center of a strengthened Europe, the marketplace Berlin offers exhibitors and buyers the possibility to work with the biggest European markets. In addition it is the gate to the most potent and unexploited markets in Northern and Eastern Europe as well as to the Asian market.
