Belle du Jour – Irina Lazareanu
20-10-2006
Take the current belle du jour Irina Lazareanu. She’s a singer/songwriter – Irina co-wrote La Belle et la Bete with Pete Doherty, a dancer – she’s a former ballet student, plus she’s an inspirational fashion muse to the likes of Nicolas Ghesquiere. Not bad eh? Oh yes, she’s also good friends with a Miss Kate Moss.
Her distinctive, sultry looks have seen her compared to the likes of Penelope Tree and Twiggy combined with a touch of Erin O’Connor. It’s a strong 60s, wide-eyed look that’s all so very now – fused with a dose of rock chick cool. Spied on the spring/summer 2006 catwalks she has just completed a record amount of shows for spring/summer 2007. Whether it’s Preen in London or Burberry Prorsum in Milan, Irina has been booked time and time again. It’s the same story on the photographic front with Italian Vogue covers and ad campaigns for Balenciaga, Mulberry and Anna Molinari padding out her rather impressive portfolio.
Much like many a designer Irina is influenced by the 60s/70s London scene in terms of film, music and books which reflects in her personal style. Despite her rapid success her true passion lies with music and the arts. Interviewed by Women’s Wear Daily she said: “I find it much more nerve-wracking to be on stage than to be on the catwalk, as sharing my lyrics is sharing my private thoughts, which is quite difficult.”
