Despite pleas from the likes of Ioan Gruffudd, the current face of Burberry, and Prince Charles, the Burberry factory in Treorchy, south Wales is set to close. The factory has been producing top-notch polo shirts since 1939 and employs 311 staff.
However, all may not be lost, the Welsh Clothing & Textile Association are currently in talks with management and union officials to propose an efficient, high quality sampling service. The scheme includes up to 25 machinists, a cutter, plus a wide variety of machinery to cover as many requests as possible. Short runs will range from 5 – 300 pieces per design.
{mosimage}To save the factory and its highly skilled workforce the Welsh Clothing & Textile Association (WCTA) needs to hear from you. Design companies in need of samples and fast turnarounds should get in touch. The WCTA needs industry backup for the proposal to work. Please get in touch with estimates of quantity and frequency of sample demand from your company. The next meeting is Wednesday 6th December so input over the next week would be much appreciated.
