The Boys Are Back in Town

17-01-2007

The menswear shows in Milan are now in full swing with recent presentations from Prada, Alexander McQueen, Emporio Armani, Neil Barrett, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli.

So far – so black, yes, black prevails once again followed by tone on tone colour and flashes of bright accents. Metallics, particularly silver, remain strong, along with shiny / mat combos – even McQueen included a series of glazed jackets and suits adding some glossy glam to an otherwise sombre palette.

Looks like Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen can dig out his favourite leather pants as we spied a few versions of the biker staple on the Autumn/Winter catwalks. While key themes such as military details, classic suiting and rock star chic remained, a handful of designers looked to those mountainous ski-slopes for inspiration. Kind of ironic really, considering the non-winter-esque conditions affecting a number of European Ski resorts at the moment. For the most blinging ‘look-at-me-ski-wear’ check out Emporio Armani. Elsewhere, fur trimmed jackets, puffa’s and oversized knits kept those male models cosy.

A key element that designers have been unanimous about thus far is the Autumn/Winter 07/08 silhouette. We may be getting over skinny in the legwear department but slimline and lean is the way to go. The sleek look is either continued up the body or contrasted with voluminous jackets, knits and layers.  Don’t know if you’ve noticed but those shoulders seem to be getting broader.
