What’s In Store?

Key trends retailers have picked up on so far include:
Monochrome
Yes, that old classic again! Going strong for a good few seasons, it’s safe, timeless and is a trend that can be adapted to appeal to all market sectors. This time around monochrome takes on strong graphic and illustrative prints, and as you can see at Next, the result gives a 60s nod to mod. Elsewhere, playful black & white prints can be found on spring dresses, tunics, puff-sleeve tops and a whole range of accessories.
Spice
On the spring/summer catwalks strong shades of megawatt colour such as yellow and ultramarine made an impact amongst all the neutrals on show. The high street, however, is introducing colour that’s a tad less scary. Spicy shades such as cinnamon, burnt orange, mustard and tan are warm an inviting without being too in-your-face.
Block Prints
Block patterns and prints are looking particularly strong this spring, especially graphic geometric shapes that mix 3 to 4 key shades. Vibrant and playful the trend will no doubt be a hit with the style conscious 16 – 24-year-old sector – Oasis, Miss Selfridge and Dorothy Perkins have all picked up on the look.
Catwalk designers may well have moved on but the high street has continued to stock up on 60s silhouettes and styling details. Meanwhile, mega store H&M has introduced a touch of the 70s; high-waisted denims, floor-length maxi-dresses and loose tunic tops. Last but not least, don’t forget metallic shine; everyone seems to be adding slippery satins, silks and their cheaper cousins to their spring 07 collections.
