Shop Front: Slinky Silver

07-02-2007

February isn’t the most uplifting of months; the extravagance of Christmas and the sales combined with a chilly dose of winter weather doesn’t exactly make for the best of shopping conditions.

Not ones to be put off retailers are enticing passing customers with the likes of Valentine’s displays and new spring merchandise previews. Inspirational as ever Selfridges have gone for an eye-catching metallic silver theme. Combined with white the overall feel is clean, polished and slightly futuristic. While high shine silver might sound a tad scary for most, visual merchandisers at Selfridges have managed to give it a commercial twist when combined with white and pale grey. It’s a trend that is catching on, many a high street window features a touch of silver – after all it’s guaranteed to attract the magpie within. The hard and fast rule with high-gloss sheen being less is so much more.

Selfridges latest batch of windows also previews Spring/Summer collections from the likes of Temperley, Osman Yousefzada, (who incidentally will be showing his A/W 07/08 collection in Selfridges car park next week) Alexander McQueen and Ashish amongst others.
