What is ‘A Brighter Future’ project?

A Brighter Future is a youth enterprise project, funded by North London LSC and European Social Fund delivered to young people at risk and excluded from mainstream education. Each group sets up a micro enterprise that designs, manufactures and sells jewellery and fashion accessories.  Recently established as a non-profit Community Interest Company to widen participation and provide on-going opportunities for young people.

Products from A Brighter Future have recently been made available on the high street.  The Enter Boutique in Croydon’s Centrale Shopping Centre has been stocking A Brighter Future jewellery and accessories since November 06.

Key topics covered at the seminar:

A Brighter Future works, read on to find out how the project has affected and helped turnaround these young lives:

“I’ve always been very creative, but didn’t have a chance to develop this at school. Being dyslexic meant my teachers were focusing on all the subjects I struggled with – English, Maths and information technology. I never felt as clever as my peers and that had a bad effect on my behaviour. The creative hands-on skills that I was good at were never offered to me.”

“Making jewellery has improved my concentration, attention to detail and skills in working with others. The first time I sold a piece of jewellery was quite an emotional experience for me… I never believed anybody would want to give me real money for something I had made. I now have a new level of confidence in myself and no longer feel afraid to try new and challenging opportunities.”

Jenny Holloway, Director of Fashion-Enter and the Enter Boutique commented: “We are delighted to be involved in such a rewarding and enterprising project. We have reviewed the merchandise and the majority is very strong and commercially viable. We will also be working with the teenagers to provide on going support and mentoring with our Getting It Right First Time workshop that is supported by Equals, Newham College and also Croydon Enterprise.”
