One for the Diary: Tickle Me Green! By Laura Louise Frampton
25-04-2007
From Monday 30th April to Friday the 4th May 2007 LCF presents “Is Green The New Black?†an event that will decipher the complex issues currently surrounding the fashion industry.
On Monday morning Laura Bailey will open the event that offers a vast selection of debates, workshops, activities and discussion panels. The staff, students and public will no doubt have a week of fun packed learning to indulge in. Exciting guests include Marks & Spencer, the Environmental Justice Foundation, Jo Wood Organic Cosmetics, Style Will Save Us, ECAA, Lucy Siegle (the Ethical Columnist for the Observer Magazine) and many more…
Refashioning day will tickle you green, the clothes swapping carnival is hosted by Feather Duster, an organisation that has taken the ancient ritual of borrowing your best friend’s clothes & transforming them into a public display of giveaways! The day is designed to highlight issues surrounding consumer habits and waste whilst looking at refashioning, reusing and customising fashion. The idea behind the swap is that you bring any unwanted clothes & exchange them for tokens, then using those tokens you can pick up new stuff for free! A unique and inspiring idea to save your pennies whilst saving the earth! But the fun doesn’t stop there… With freebie fashionistas everywhere there’s a chance to get restyling tips to the beats of a live DJ and drinks are on offer to celebrate the glories of the day. There’s even a prize for the best outfit… restyled from everyone’s rejects that is!
{mosimage}The Eco-Design Fair, on Friday 4th May, is open to the public. Set up by recycled textile artist Louise Kamara, this unique retail event proves that sustainable products can be transformed into fashionable items for all to enjoy. With a vast production line including; clothing, home accessories, jewellery, furniture, fair trade goods and many more, the fair offers a pleasurable shopping day without the guilt! But it’s not just products for sale, knowledge is too! With information available on how to develop a more sustainable lifestyle, there’s no excuse not to indulge in all things green.
