One for the Weekend: Punk in the Afternoon

11-05-2007

Want to experience the world of punk this weekend? Then look no further than the Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen this Saturday for a mini punkfest that includes a once in a blue moon screening of the alternative punk flick Afro Punk as well as plenty of punk-esque tunes.

Afro-Punk, is a 66 minute documentary that explores race identity within the punk scene, tackling some hard hitting fundamental issues along the way. It follows the lives of four black punk rockers and the conflicting situations they find themselves in. The documentary is laced with performances by Bad Brains, Tamar Kali, Cipher and Ten Grand as well as interviews with the likes of Fishbone and Candiria.

Digbyland Studios teamed up with cult Shoreditch film club Today Is Boring following the launch of the film club’s new events arm entitled Your Life is a Film. This is the second of a three part screening session that aims to illuminate punk’s unsung heroes.
