London Fashion Week Day 6
21-09-2007
Long days and late nights can play havoc with one’s complexion which is why sunglasses come rain or shine are a must-have accessory. It’s no secret that fashion parties are alcohol fuelled affairs which can explain some of those rather tired early morning faces.
The first show of the day slot can be tricky but thankfully Osman Yousefzada lured us all out of bed with the promise of fresh croissants and strong coffee. Sponsored by the Spanish retail chain Mango the Oxford Street store provided an ideal backdrop, albeit a long and narrow one. Osman stuck to his modern cuts full of directional details, tribal references were stripped down and construction was almost architectural.
Over at Aimee McWilliams it was luxurious satin all the way with tailored suits, high-waisted tulip skirts and sexy bubble dresses. Detail is key to Aimee – as discovered on closer inspection. Check out her gold buckle strap and zip features which looked particularly striking against black.
The annual Fashion Fringe competition provided much excitement all round. Design duo Aminaka Wilmont, AKA Marcus Wilmont and Maki Aminaka Löfvander, bagged the top prize. Along with all the business support and expert advice required to establish their business, the collection will also be exhibiting in Paris and available to buy via Net-A-Porter.com. In addition to this, from Spring 2008, Aminaka Wilmont will see their specially designed sunglasses available in over 970 Superdrug stores nationwide, via the Superdrug Accessory Award.
Next up at the BFC tent former Fashion Fringe finalists Modernist displayed cropped jackets, cut-away jerseys and pleated sections in their refined and yet wearable collection, while Siouxsie and the Banshees blared out of the speakers.
Elsewhere, On|Off for the very first time presented six of their exhibition designers on the catwalk. Highlights came courtesy of Hannah Marshall and Yuchi.
