Be green; be good, like you and Santa know you should!

11-12-2007

Saving the environment this Christmas is probably the last thing on a lot of people’s minds as they do the headless chicken dance towards that ever looming December 25th deadline. The question then surely, is how does the average panic stricken Joe cut down on their 50kg share of the Christmas global waste that this year will, like any other, weigh in somewhere around 3 million tonnes.  That’s a lot of wrapping, right?

Well, not all presents need wrapping and not all presents need add to the ‘invisible’ stockpile of wasteful unwanted gifts either. There are fair trade presents that not only bring the as yet missing fashion element to this article, but an unfamiliar inner glow of goodness too!

Ethicsgirls sell anything from toys and food to yes, you guessed it, fashion products, fashion products that are sure to be individual, unique, pleasing and above all globally beneficial. Organic, fair trade, UK made and recycled products are their specialty, so why not boost that Christmas cheer this year and do your bit for the planet.

This year, African communities can benefit as well as the environment with a wide range of Oxfam (oxfamunwrapped.com) gifts that include anything from seeds to condoms (see what I did there!) So, along with all your essential Christmas cards and paper recycling, organic, energy saving and third world aiding purchases, remember, you can also help with your acquisition of that essential yet seldom ethical fashion item too!
