Get the look: Eye Gloss
16-09-2008
Makeup artists at New York's Spring/Summer 2009 shows likely smeared eye gloss on their models from what celebrity makeup specialist Diane Kendal called "a grease pot." The homemade eye gloss concoction was favoured by the top makeup artists including British-born Charlotte Tilbury and Dick Page. Models paraded the catwalk with their fairytale eyes that reflected the spotlight as well as the innovation of what some are calling the next generation of artists with a light touch.

Of course creamy eye shadows are available for purchase, such as MAC's Shadestick, but to achieve maximum glossiness, you can blend your own.
Ingredients:
- Your favourite shade of eye shadow
- Clear lip gloss or Vaseline
Directions:
- Rub a generous portion of eye shadow onto the back or your palm (just as the professional makeup artists do!)
- Add approximately half as much clear lip gloss or Vaseline on top of the shadow
- Rub the two ingredients together until texture is smooth and shiny
- Apply to the eyelid with either fingertip or eye shadow brush. Start from the inside near the nose and move outwards until lid is covered

Trade Secrets
"You know, you just can't put much more gloss on your lips," Dick Page tells Vogue. "Its like everyone's been eating pork chops for the last few years. I don't know how much more gloss the lip can carry, so maybe it's just migrating north."
Makeup artist for Alexander Wang and Marc Jacob's shows this year, Page says that eye liner and mascara are difficult to use and nearly impossible to stay put in combination with eye gloss. He recommends blending charcoal eyeliner with either clear lip gloss or Vaseline and applying it to the perimeter of the eyes.
