The DTI Makes Way for BERR
05-12-2007
Following changes introduced on 28 June 2007 by
the Prime Minister, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) no longer
exists. He has re-engineered
large parts of government, turning the remains of the DTI, stripped of trade,
into a diminished department instantly dubbed BERR
– Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. The main government changes
affecting the department were the removal of the Office of Science and Innovation
to the new Department for
Innovation, Universities and Skills,
Trade is now a part of
the UK Trade and
Investment department and the arrival of the Better Regulation Executive from
the Cabinet
Office. The areas of responsibilities,
many covered by DTI, are now: Company Law, Trade, Business Growth, Employment Law,
Regional Economic Development, Energy and Consumer Law.
From the BERR website:
“BERR helps ensure business success in an
increasingly competitive world. It is the voice for business across Government.
This website
provides information about BERR’s
priorities and policies. BERR and its
delivery partners also provide a range of practical assistance to business.”
