Menswear plummeted by eight basis points over the month whilst childrenswear fell by just one point. Tabloids reported Marks and Spencer's total share in clothing fell by 49 basis points over the 24 weeks to March 1st. M&S also reduced the number of discount promotions over the 6 months which may have contributed in the current climate.

Competitor department stores Next and Debenhams increased shares over the six month period with Next seeing a sharp increase of 13 basis points with Debenhams increasing by 8 basis points. Leading national press also saw New Look and House of Fraser's performance improving too.
