The success of the festive season:
Overall the value clothing market is continuing to grow strongly with up to an estimated 6% in 2009 to £8.1 billion.
Specialist fashion discounters such as Primark, TK Maxx and Matalan are the main beneficiaries of the strong growth in value clothing sales, and have seen their sales rise by 7% to £5 billion in 2009. Supermarket clothing lines such as TU for Sainsbury and F&F for Tesco are both seeing a rise in sales since December. House of Fraser, Next, New Look and John Lewis have also had increased sales for the December period with some profiting up to 30% since the year before.
