Day 2 – LFW – Kinder Aggugini

20-02-2010

Years later we are still seeing interpretations of the era and its no surprise designers such as Aggugini are using it as a source of inspiration.

Auggugini’s powerful modern interpretation of the regency period focuses on the beautiful Juliette Recamier. A bold, courageous and intellectual muse that during Napoleons rise was the only woman to match his prominence. Aggugini, fell in love with her character and imagined what a woman of her stature would be like in the present day.

What he dreamt up was a feisty woman with a rocker lifestyle! Auggugini, strips down the confinement and restriction of the Victoriana gowns and replaces them with dreamy black satins that effortlessly hang of the body teamed with leather jackets and utilitarian zips. The use of black in the floor length maxi dresses was a little risqué mixing his intention of intellect and empowerment with Gothic connotations.

Aggugini, clearly accentuated the beauty and politics in the feme fatale through his introduction of the rigid napoleon jacket based on 19th century uniforms; beautifully tailored with intricate back panelling in traditional navy blue and red with hints of lace. The lace trims mixed with super-soft tweeds brought the usually rigid jacket and an air of femininity.

References to the classic fitted cashmere knits were utilised and deconstructed into various weights and volumes in the shape of modern silhouettes such as the batwing sleeves and peak shoulders.

Aggugini rekindled our love for Napoleon and the 19th century, bringing us easy glamour with the juxtaposition of structured form perfectly balancing draped dresses and skirts. A thought through collection with a well-researched theme that congruently hit the key trends of the season.
