New jobs for Haringey

12-03-2010

Haringey council have won the bid for almost £1.5 million, which will be creating 200 new jobs. This money will be helping young and unemployed people to get back into the work place by using schemes such as work experience and work placements provided within the Haringey area.

The £1.5 Million grant will enable Haringey council to provide 221 people with a 6 month work placement. The money will be divided throughout the placements and will be £6,500 each; this will provide wages, training and organisational expenses.

Work placements will range from crafts to marketing. These will be within the NHS, council, North London Business, the College of Haringey, Enfield and North-East London, Homes for Haringey and HAVCO.

All of the participants working within the new scheme will receive the London living wage, job training and support; this will be with all aspects of the placement. Participants will also receive training with interviews and will be given any permanent job interview position.

This scheme will not just help the candidates but also the wider community by providing support for venerable people, improve the local facilities and bolstering civic pride. The job centre will be supporting this project and the first work placement positions will occur in February 2010 and will carry on through out the year.
