Luke Ritta’s thoughts on the second live debate
23-04-2010
The second live debate took place in the city of Bristol where the Sky news centre is. All three men had something to prove after last weeks debate. Brown and Cameron had to perform better while Clegg had to make sure his great performance last time was no fluke. This is how the live debate unfolded.

The first question of the evening was about Europe and if the U.K. should be part of the E.U.? ‘There are three million reasons why we should be in Europe,’ Brown began. ‘And those reasons are jobs!’ Clegg said ‘There are a lot of things we (U.K.) cant do alone, for example we cant deal with climate change on our own.’ While David Cameron showed he was very prepared for the evening as he stated, ‘People feel cheated that there was no vote on constitution,’ he looked straight into the camera. ‘We would stand up for Britain!’
David Cameron looked like he just edged it with that last question and also for the next two questions he looked like he came out on top. The next question was about Terror! Cameron answered it with, ‘We have to learn from past mistakes and never send our troops into battle with out the proper equipment.’ Nick Clegg also pointed out these same facts just before. The next question was about the environment and how individually each one of the men has helped the environment? Both Brown and Clegg made good points, but it was Cameron who made the strongest points. He warned the public about power cuts in 2017 and he really dose not went the third runway at Heathrow.
When the three men answered about how they have helped the environment, Brown and Cameron answered with show-off answers making themselves look environmentally friendly. While I personally think Nick Clegg connected themost to the public when he said he doesn’t do as much as he should for the environment. He knew that most of the general public don’t do enough to reduce their carbon foot print so he connected much more with them than his opponents.

The next question was on religion and about the Popes visit to England later this year. All three men agreed with each other for the first time. Also Gordon Brown looked more confident as the night went on.
The next few questions were on topics such as expenses, pensioners and the election. All three answered good and as the night continued it looked more clear that no one was wining out right this evening. Gordon Brown won the last question of the night which was about migrants. He was stronger with his answer than his opponents.

Over all Brown and Cameron performed much better while Clegg was pretty much as he was last week, but the difference tonight were his opponents turned up prepared. Cameron even went to the pub afterwards to celebrate the victory he thought he had won.

So as the hours tick down to the final live debate it looks like all three men and their party’s are very close, this election also looks like the closest election in the U.K in nearly half a century.
Until next time..
