Madonna suffers lawsuit on her ‘Material Girl’ clothing line.
26-08-2010
Madonna announced prior to the ‘Material Girl’ clothing line launch that it has been inspired by her daughter’s style. However they have found themselves at the receiving end of a possible lawsuit that has been bought about by California clothing company LA Triumph Inc are claiming that Madonna stole their ‘Material Girl’ trademark and say they have been using the ‘Material Girl’ brand name since 1997.

LA Triumph Inc claim that they have been selling similar clothes, in similar retail outlets and at similar price points using the ‘Material Girl’ brand name since at least 1997, and are claiming that Madonna, Lourdes and their new found company have no right to trade in the same space under the ‘Material Girl’ brand. Following this LA Triumph Inc are not only seeking to ban Madonna and her daughter from using the trademark brand name, but are also asking that all profits that have been made so far from Madonna’s line and company should be given to them.
With Madonna’s Line being fronted by the face of Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen, it has been noted that people seem to think that LA Triumph may face the risk of being subsumed by Madonna’s worldwide profile and massive marketing campaign.
Madonna’s name may be closely associated with the term Material Girl but it’s possible that after all of this, Madonna may not be the quintessential Material Girl everyone has linked her to after all.
