LFW Friday 18th Feb 2011 : Prophetik

The collection was inspired by Louis XV, the time when art became “frivolous” and a “slave to consumers”. The collection was filled with natural colour palettes with subtle hues of plum purple matched with an earthy green. There were angelic looks models flowing down the runway, wearing silky satin old English dresses with inserts of patchwork quality sides. There was a religious sense of awe down the catwalk with ethereal attitude. There were small details of an oriental fabric at the waist of some of the dresses with gold buttons enhancing the red opulent print. Some garments had an old English feel reminding me of a picture postcard that’s aged over the years as the colours were faded bringing a soft silhouette. There was a variety of fabrics consisting of velvet, satins, silks and even corduroy mixing it up with full length dresses but also a couple of thigh skimmers. The dresses had beautiful corsets infused shaping the upper body in a naturally feminine way. A couple of classic pieces such as the black silk dress were beautifully elegant with a gold safety pin accessory with small pin tucks and buttons at the back. One piece really stood out which was the bright blue jumpsuit with waves of ruffles down the front really showing off the impact of Louis XV, with it was a military black jacket. The tailoring was superb as the corsets fitted perfectly especially on the finale dress, a corset infused dress with feathers billowing at the right angles was stunning, there was a small Valentino feel to it, in an angelic white it really was the finale piece.
